Mean, median, and mode of a list of numbers.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Average (Mean) is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Finds the mean, median, mode and range of a list of numbers, along with their sum and count.
Mean = sum ÷ count. Median is the middle value once sorted, or the average of the two middle values when the count is even. Mode lists every value that appears most often, and shows none when no value repeats. Range = largest − smallest. Results show up to three decimal places.
For 3, 7, 7, 2, 9, 12: the sum is 40 and the count 6, so the mean is 6.667. Sorted, the middle values are 7 and 7, so the median is 7. The mode is 7 and the range is 12 − 2 = 10.
When a few extreme values would pull the mean away from what is typical, as with incomes or house prices. The median depends only on the middle of the sorted list.
If two or more values tie for the most appearances, all of them are modes. The tool lists each one.
You do not have to open Average (Mean) to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
