Hypotenuse, angles and area of a right triangle from its two legs.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Triangle Solver is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Solves a right triangle from its two legs, giving the hypotenuse, the area and both acute angles, with a diagram drawn to scale.
Hypotenuse c = √(a² + b²) by Pythagoras. Area = a × b ÷ 2. Angle A, opposite leg a, is arctan(a ÷ b) in degrees, and Angle B = 90° − A. It works for right triangles only; other triangles need the law of sines or cosines.
Legs of 5 and 12 give a hypotenuse of √169 = 13 and an area of 30. Angle A is 22.62° and Angle B is 67.38°.
Measure 3 units along one side and 4 along the other. If the diagonal between the marks is exactly 5, the corner is 90°. Any multiple such as 6, 8, 10 works too.
Rearrange Pythagoras: leg = √(c² − other leg²). With c = 13 and one leg 5, the other leg is √(169 − 25) = 12.
You do not have to open Triangle Solver to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
