GPA Calculator

Compute your GPA from grades and credits.

Free to use, no sign-up required. GPA Calculator is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

Calculates a credit-weighted grade point average from course grades and credit hours, on either a marks-based scale or the US 4.0 scale.

How to use GPA Calculator

  1. Choose the Grade scale: Marks-based (A+ = 4.00) or US 4.0 (A = 4.0).
  2. For each course enter the Credits and pick the Grade; the course name is optional.
  3. Use Add course for more rows, or the bin icon to remove one.
  4. Read the GPA and Total credits, then Copy result or Print.

How it works

GPA = sum of (credits × grade points) ÷ total credits, ignoring zero-credit rows. Marks-based: A+ 4.00 (80–100%), A 3.75, A− 3.50, B+ 3.25, B 3.00, B− 2.75, C+ 2.50, C 2.25, D 2.00, F 0. US: A+ and A 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D 1.0, F 0.

Example

An A and a B+ in 3-credit courses and a C in a 4-credit course: marks-based, that is 11.25 + 9.75 + 9 = 30 points over 10 credits, a GPA of 3.000. On the US scale it is 12 + 9.9 + 8 = 29.9, a GPA of 2.990.

Questions about GPA Calculator

Why do credits matter in a GPA?

A course worth more credits carries more weight, so a C in a 4-credit course pulls the average down more than a C in a 1-credit one.

Is an A+ worth more than an A?

On the US 4.0 scale here both are 4.0, though some schools give A+ 4.3. On the marks-based scale an A+ (80% or more) is 4.00 and an A is 3.75.

Use it from chat

You do not have to open GPA Calculator to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
