The final exam score needed to reach a target grade.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Grade Needed is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Works out the score you need on a final exam to finish a course with a target grade, and the best overall grade you could still reach.
Your current grade carries (100 − final worth)% of the course. Needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final’s weight as a fraction. Max possible = current × (1 − w) + 100 × w. A result over 100% means the target is out of reach; below 0% means it is already secured.
With 85% now, a final worth 30% and a target of 90%, you need (90 − 59.5) ÷ 0.3 = 101.7%, which is not achievable; the best possible is 89.5%. A target of 88% needs 95%.
Convert first. Your current grade is points earned ÷ points possible so far, and the final’s worth is its points ÷ total course points.
Only if you include it in the current grade. If the final can be scored above 100%, a result slightly over 100 may still be reachable.
You do not have to open Grade Needed to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
