Shuffle a list into random order.
Free to use, no sign-up required. List Shuffler is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Puts the lines of a list into a random order. People use it for running orders, reading lists, playlists or deciding who goes first.
Empty lines are dropped, then the list is shuffled with the Fisher–Yates method: working from the last item back, each item swaps places with a randomly chosen item at or before it. The random numbers come from crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographic source. Every item stays in the list exactly once; only the order changes.
Shuffling the five lines Anna, Ben, Chloe, Dev and Emma returns the same five names in a new order, such as Chloe, Emma, Anna, Dev, Ben.
Yes. Fisher–Yates gives each of the n! possible orders the same chance, and each random pick is drawn by rejection sampling so no position is favoured. A common shortcut, sorting with a random comparator, does not have this property: items tend to stay near where they started.
Yes. Two identical lines are treated as two items and both appear in the result. Only fully blank lines are removed.
You do not have to open List Shuffler to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
