Markdown Preview

Write markdown and see it rendered live.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Markdown Preview is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

Shows a live rendered preview of Markdown as you type, for drafting README files, documentation, notes or forum posts.

How to use Markdown Preview

  1. Type or paste Markdown into the box.
  2. Watch the formatted preview underneath update as you edit.
  3. Edit until the preview looks right, then copy the text from the box into your file or post.

How it works

The text is rendered with CommonMark plus the GitHub Flavored Markdown extensions, so tables, strikethrough with ~~text~~, task lists with - [ ] and bare links that turn into links all work. Raw HTML typed into the text is not rendered.

Example

“# Hello” followed by a blank line and “- Live **markdown** preview” renders as a large Hello heading with one bullet point, where the word markdown is bold.

Questions about Markdown Preview

How do I make a table in Markdown?

Put cells between pipes on each row and add a separator row of dashes under the header, for example | Name | Age | then |---|---| then | Ada | 36 |.

Why does my line break disappear?

In Markdown a single line break inside a paragraph is treated as a space. Leave a blank line to start a new paragraph, or end the line with two spaces for a hard break.

What it takes

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Markdown Preview to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
