Shows the percent increase or decrease from an original value to a new one, alongside the plain difference. Used for price changes, growth figures and before-and-after comparisons.
Change = (new − original) ÷ |original| × 100, shown to 2 decimal places. The original is taken as an absolute value so that moving from −100 to −50 counts as a rise of 50%. When the original is 0 no percentage exists, so the tool shows only the difference.
From 80 to 100 is (100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = +25.00%, a difference of +20. Going back from 100 to 80 is −20.00%, because the starting point is now 100.
Each percentage is measured against its own starting value. 80 up 25% is 100, and a 20-point drop from 100 is 20% of 100, which lands back on 80.
No. A rate moving from 4% to 5% is a change of 1 percentage point but a 25% increase. Enter 4 and 5 here and you get +25.00%.
