Encode or decode URL-safe text.
Free to use, no sign-up required. URL Encode is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Encodes text so it is safe to put inside a URL, or decodes percent-encoded text back into readable form. Reach for it when building query strings or reading a link full of %20 and %3D.
Encoding uses JavaScript’s encodeURIComponent, which escapes every character except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ) as UTF-8 bytes in %XX form, so / ? & and = are escaped too. Decoding uses decodeURIComponent; a stray % that is not followed by two hex digits shows “Invalid input”.
Encoding “name=Zoë & co/?page=2” gives name%3DZo%C3%AB%20%26%20co%2F%3Fpage%3D2. The ë becomes two bytes, %C3%AB, and each space becomes %20.
Both appear. %20 is valid anywhere in a URL, while + means a space only in form-style query strings. This tool writes %20 and leaves + unchanged when decoding.
encodeURIComponent is meant for one piece, such as a single query value. Encode only the part that goes after = rather than the full address.
You do not have to open URL Encode to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
