Scratchpad

A quick notes pad that saves automatically and waits for you.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Scratchpad is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

A plain text box for quick notes — a phone number, a list, a draft — that keeps what you type and has it waiting the next time you open it. It also counts words and characters.

How to use Scratchpad

  1. Click in the box and type or paste your note.
  2. Watch the counter below for the number of words and characters.
  3. Close the tool when you are done; the Auto-saved label means there is no save button to press.

How it works

Every keystroke is stored in your browser’s local storage, so the note stays on this device even without a connection. The word count splits the text on spaces and line breaks, and the character count includes spaces and line breaks. The note is plain text with no formatting.

Questions about Scratchpad

Will clearing my browser data delete my notes?

Yes, for anything stored only in the browser. Clearing site data or using a private window removes it, so copy anything important to a file or a proper notes app.

How are words counted?

Any run of characters between spaces or line breaks counts as one word, so a hyphenated word or a URL is one word, and a lone dash counts as a word too. Word processors may count slightly differently.

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Scratchpad to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
