Slug Generator

Turn any title into a clean URL slug.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Slug Generator is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

Turns a title into a clean URL slug using only letters, numbers and a separator. Use it when naming blog posts, product pages or files.

How to use Slug Generator

  1. Type your title into the box.
  2. Pick “Hyphen -” or “Underscore _” as the separator, and keep lowercase on or off.
  3. Turn on “Remove stop-words” to drop short words such as the, in and for, and set a Max length if you need one.
  4. Check the example.com preview and character count, then copy the slug.

How it works

Accents are stripped by Unicode decomposition, so é becomes e. Every run of characters other than a–z, A–Z and 0–9 becomes one separator. Stop-words come from a fixed list of 17 (a, an, and, the, or, of, to, in, for, on, with, at, by, from, is, it, as) and are never all removed. Max length cuts at the last separator before the limit so no word is split.

Example

“The 10 Best Cafés in São Paulo for 2026!” becomes the-10-best-cafes-in-sao-paulo-for-2026. With stop-words removed it is 10-best-cafes-sao-paulo-2026, and with a max length of 20 it is 10-best-cafes-sao.

Questions about Slug Generator

Should slugs use hyphens or underscores?

Google recommends hyphens, because it treats a hyphen as a space between words while an underscore can join the words together.

How long should a slug be?

Short enough to read at a glance, often three to six words. Dropping stop-words and dates keeps it short and stable if the page is updated later.

What it takes

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Slug Generator to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
