The tool sends only the mode, your text and, for Translate, the target language to the Xenition AI engine, where a language model does the work. Fix grammar corrects errors while keeping your wording where it can; Improve may rephrase more freely; Summarize shortens to the main points.
Grammar fixes correct mistakes such as agreement, tense, punctuation and spelling. Improving goes further and changes word choice and sentence structure for clarity, even when the original was correct.
A common guide is about a quarter to a third of the original for a paragraph, and a few sentences for a page. A summary keeps the main claim and key facts and drops examples and repetition.
