Boxes or area of flooring needed for a room.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Flooring Estimator is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Turns a room’s floor area into the number of boxes of laminate, vinyl or engineered flooring to buy, and what they will cost.
The area is increased by the waste margin: area × (1 + waste % ÷ 100). That is divided by the coverage per box and rounded up to whole boxes. Total cost = boxes × price per box, and the cost per m² divides that by the original floor area.
20 m² at 2.2 m² per box with 8% waste: 20 × 1.08 = 21.6 m², ÷ 2.2 = 9.8, so 10 boxes covering 22 m². At 45 per box the total is 450, about 22.5 per m², leaving roughly 2 m² spare after fitting.
Around 5 to 10% for a simple rectangular room with a straight lay. Rooms with many corners, or diagonal and herringbone patterns, need more because of the extra cuts.
Colour and finish vary between production batches. A spare pack from the same batch lets you replace a damaged board later without a visible mismatch.
You do not have to open Flooring Estimator to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
