The yearly cost of a daily or weekly habit.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Habit Cost is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Adds up what a regular habit such as coffee, cigarettes or takeaway lunches costs per week, per year and over ten years. Seeing the long-term total helps decide whether it is worth cutting back.
Weekly cost is the price times the number of times per week. Yearly cost is weekly × 52, and the ten-year figure is yearly × 10. No inflation, price rises or investment growth are added, so the totals are in today’s money.
A 4.50 coffee bought 5 times a week costs 22.5 weekly, 1,170 a year and 11,700 over 10 years.
The ten-year total here is plain savings. Invested at a steady return, the same amounts would grow larger, because each year’s savings would also earn interest.
Habits are entered per week, and a year has 52 full weeks. The extra day or two each year adds less than half a percent.
You do not have to open Habit Cost to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
