Gives two classic reference weights for your height and sex, from the Devine and Robinson formulas. They are estimates and do not account for build or muscle, so treat them as a rough guide rather than medical advice.
Height is converted to inches and the amount over 5 feet (60 inches) is used. Devine: 50 kg for men or 45.5 kg for women, plus 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. Robinson: 52 kg plus 1.9 kg per inch for men, or 49 kg plus 1.7 kg per inch for women. Heights under 5 feet get the base weight only.
A man 178 cm tall is 70.1 inches, 10.1 inches over 5 feet. Devine gives 50 + 2.3 × 10.08 = 73.2 kg and Robinson gives 71.1 kg. A woman 165 cm tall gets 56.9 kg from Devine and 57.4 kg from Robinson.
Devine’s 1974 formula was written to dose drugs by body size, and Robinson’s 1983 version refined it. Neither was designed as a health target, which is why they ignore frame size and muscle.
For most heights they fall in the middle of the BMI 18.5 to 24.9 range. The 73.2 kg above is a BMI of about 23.1 at 178 cm.
You do not have to open Ideal Weight to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
