Overtime Pay

Total pay including overtime hours at a higher rate.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Overtime Pay is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

Calculates a week’s pay when some hours are paid at a higher overtime rate, such as time and a half, and projects it to a month and a year.

How to use Overtime Pay

  1. Enter your Base rate per hour.
  2. Set the OT multiplier: 1.5 for time and a half, 2 for double time.
  3. Enter your Regular hours and Overtime hours for the week.
  4. Read Regular pay, Overtime pay and Total / week, with monthly and yearly equivalents below.

How it works

Regular pay = base rate × regular hours. Overtime pay = base rate × multiplier × overtime hours. The monthly figure is weekly total × 52 ÷ 12 and the yearly figure is weekly total × 52. You decide which hours count as overtime; the tool does not apply a 40-hour or daily threshold for you, and it does not deduct tax.

Example

At 20 an hour with 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours at 1.5×, regular pay is 800, overtime pay is 20 × 1.5 × 5 = 150, and the week totals 950. At that pace, that is about 4,116.67 a month and 49,400 a year.

Questions about Overtime Pay

When does overtime start?

It depends on where you work. In the US, federal law requires 1.5× pay for non-exempt hours over 40 in a workweek; some states and countries also count daily overtime.

Is time and a half the same as 50% more per hour?

Yes. A multiplier of 1.5 pays each overtime hour at the base rate plus half again, so 20 an hour becomes 30.

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Overtime Pay to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
