Unit Price

Compare products by price per unit to spot the better deal.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Unit Price is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

Compares two to five products by price per unit, so you can tell whether the bigger pack, the store brand or the bulk buy is really cheaper.

How to use Unit Price

  1. For each option, enter the Price and the Size/qty, then pick its Unit: each, g, kg, oz, lb, ml, L or fl oz.
  2. Use Add option for up to five products, or the × to remove one; name them if you like.
  3. Read each option’s price per 100 g, per 100 ml or per unit, and the verdict naming the better value.

How it works

Every size is converted to a base unit (1 oz = 28.3495 g, 1 lb = 453.592 g, 1 fl oz = 29.5735 ml, 1 kg = 1,000 g, 1 L = 1,000 ml), then price is divided by that size. Weight and volume cannot be compared with each other, so if the options mix them no verdict is given. The percentage cheaper is measured against the next-cheapest option.

Example

3.50 for 500 g works out to 0.70 per 100 g, and 5.00 for 1 kg to 0.50 per 100 g. The verdict: Option B is the better value, 28.6% cheaper per unit. Option A is shown as 40% more expensive.

Questions about Unit Price

Why are “28.6% cheaper” and “40% more expensive” both right?

They use different starting points. 0.20 less is 28.6% of 0.70, but 0.20 more is 40% of 0.50.

Can I compare a pack in ounces with one in grams?

Yes. Both are weights, so they are converted to grams before comparing. Only weight against volume is blocked.

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Unit Price to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
