Reduces a fraction to its lowest terms and converts it to a decimal and a percentage.
Both numbers are rounded to whole numbers, then divided by their greatest common divisor, found with Euclid’s algorithm. A minus sign is moved to the numerator, so 18/−24 becomes −3/4. The decimal is numerator ÷ denominator to six decimal places, and the percent is that × 100 to three.
18/24 has a greatest common divisor of 6, so it simplifies to 3/4, which is 0.75 or 75%. 2/3 is 0.666667, or 66.667%.
Divide the numerator by the denominator. The whole-number result is the whole part and the remainder sits over the same denominator: 11/4 is 2 remainder 3, so 2 3/4.
Thirds, sixths, sevenths and many others repeat forever in decimal, so the decimal is cut off at six places. The simplified fraction is the exact value.
