Simplify a ratio to lowest terms and see it as a decimal.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Ratio Calculator is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Reduces a ratio to its simplest whole-number form and shows it as a decimal, for jobs like finding a screen’s aspect ratio or scaling a recipe.
If either number has decimals, both are multiplied by the same power of 10 to make them whole (up to six decimal places). They are then divided by their greatest common divisor, found with Euclid’s algorithm. The decimal is first ÷ second to four places.
1920 : 1080 has a greatest common divisor of 120, so it simplifies to 16 : 9, which is 1.7778 as a decimal. 1.5 : 2 is scaled to 15 : 20 and simplifies to 3 : 4, or 0.75.
Multiply both parts by the same number. 16 : 9 at a width of 1280 is 1280 ÷ 16 = 80, and 80 × 9 = 720, giving 1280 × 720.
Yes. 16 ÷ 9 = 1.7778, so both describe the same shape; the second form fixes the smaller side at 1.
You do not have to open Ratio Calculator to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
