One converter for six everyday categories: length, mass, volume, area, speed and data. It suits a quick one-off conversion; each category also has its own converter with more units.
Each category is a table of factors against one base unit (metre, gram, litre, square metre, metre per second, byte). The value is multiplied by the source factor and divided by the target factor. Some factors are rounded, for example 1 lb = 453.592 g; ton means the metric tonne; gal and cup are US measures; Data uses 1 KB = 1,024 bytes.
In Length, 5 mi converts to 8.04672 km. In Mass, 10 lb is 4.53592 kg.
Kilograms and pounds measure mass, the amount of matter. Weight is strictly the force gravity exerts on that mass, but in everyday use the two words mean the same thing.
The US gallon, 3.78541 litres. The UK gallon is 4.54609 litres; the dedicated volume converter lists both.
