How to use Day of the Week

  1. Pick a date.
  2. Read the Day of week, written out in full.
  3. Check the line below it, which gives the date’s day number within its year.

How it works

The weekday comes from your browser’s calendar for that date at local midnight. The day-of-year number counts calendar days from 1 January, which is day 1, so daylight saving changes cannot shift it.

Example

4 July 2026 is a Saturday and day 185 of the year. 20 July 1969 was a Sunday, day 201. 31 December 2024 is day 366, because 2024 is a leap year.

Questions about Day of the Week

How can I work out a weekday without a calendar?

Methods such as Zeller’s congruence or the Doomsday rule compute it from the day, month and year. The key fact is that each ordinary year shifts weekdays by one, and a leap year by two.

Is day 1 of the year 1 January?

Yes. 1 January is day 1, and 31 December is day 365, or 366 in a leap year.

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Day of the Week to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
