Is a given year a leap year?
Free to use, no sign-up required. Leap Year Checker is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Tells you whether a year is a leap year with 366 days, or a common year with 365. Useful for date calculations, birthdays on 29 February and calendar programming.
The tool applies the Gregorian rule: a year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except years that divide by 100, unless they also divide by 400. It applies this rule to any year you enter, including years before the Gregorian calendar was adopted in 1582.
2024 divides by 4 and not by 100, so it is a leap year with 366 days. 1900 divides by 100 but not 400, so it is not. 2000 divides by 400, so it is.
Adding a day every four years overshoots the solar year by about 11 minutes. Skipping three century years out of every four corrects most of that drift.
2028. Leap years then follow every four years, and 2100 will be skipped because it divides by 100 but not by 400.
You do not have to open Leap Year Checker to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
