Focus Timer

A countdown / Pomodoro timer to focus.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Focus Timer is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

A countdown timer for focused work sessions, cooking or breaks, starting at 25 minutes in the Pomodoro style. It beeps, shows a message and can send a system notification when time is up.

How to use Focus Timer

  1. Tap a preset, 5m, 15m, 25m or 45m, or type any number of minutes into “Custom minutes” and press Set.
  2. Press Start; the bar along the bottom fills as time passes.
  3. Press Pause to hold it, or the reset arrow to return to the full duration.
  4. When it reaches 00:00 the card pulses with “Time’s up!”; press Restart to run it again.

How it works

Start fixes a finish time on the clock and the display counts the seconds left to it, so a background tab cannot make it late; Pause keeps the exact time remaining. At zero it plays three 880 Hz beeps, shows a “Timer finished” message and, if you allowed notifications at Start, sends a system notification.

Example

Typing 1.5 into Custom minutes and pressing Set gives a 90-second timer that shows 01:30. After 45 seconds it reads 00:45 and the progress bar is half full.

Questions about Focus Timer

What is the Pomodoro technique?

You work on one task for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break, and after four rounds take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The 25m, 5m and 15m presets cover each part.

Why did I not hear the alarm?

Browsers mute sound until you interact with the page and may block notifications. Keep the tab open, check that the site is not muted, and allow notifications when asked.

What it takes

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Focus Timer to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
