Convert between m/s², g-force, and ft/s².
Free to use, no sign-up required. Acceleration Converter is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Converts acceleration between m/s², g (standard gravity), ft/s² and cm/s² (the gal). It is used for car 0–100 figures, roller coaster and flight g-forces, and sensor readings from accelerometers.
Every unit is stored in m/s². One g is standard gravity, 9.80665 m/s² exactly; a foot per second squared is 0.3048 m/s² and a centimetre per second squared is 0.01 m/s².
A roller coaster peak of 3.5 g is 34.323275 m/s², or 112.60917 ft/s². A car doing 0–100 km/h in 8 seconds averages 27.78 m/s ÷ 8 = 3.47 m/s², which is 0.354068 g.
No. Real gravity ranges from about 9.78 m/s² at the equator to 9.83 m/s² at the poles. The standard g of 9.80665 m/s² is a fixed reference value.
Riders on roller coasters typically feel up to 4–5 g briefly. Trained fighter pilots with g-suits handle around 9 g. Duration and direction matter a great deal.
Acceleration Converter converts between 4 units: cm/s², ft/s², m/s² and g. Factors are given against m/s².
| Unit | In m/s² | 1 m/s² equals |
|---|---|---|
| 1 cm/s² | 0.01 m/s² | 100 cm/s² |
| 1 ft/s² | 0.3048 m/s² | 3.280839895 ft/s² |
| 1 g | 9.80665 m/s² | 0.1019716213 g |
Common quantities in m/s², converted. Every value is computed from the factors above, so the chart and the converter cannot disagree.
| m/s² | cm/s² | ft/s² | g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 m/s² | 100 | 3.280839895 | 0.1019716213 |
| 2 m/s² | 200 | 6.56167979 | 0.2039432426 |
| 5 m/s² | 500 | 16.4041994751 | 0.5098581065 |
| 10 m/s² | 1000 | 32.8083989501 | 1.019716213 |
| 25 m/s² | 2500 | 82.0209973753 | 2.5492905324 |
| 100 m/s² | 10000 | 328.0839895013 | 10.1971621298 |
1 m/s² is 100 cm/s². To convert m/s² to cm/s², divide by 0.01 — so 10 m/s² is 1000 cm/s².
1 cm/s² is 0.01 m/s². To convert cm/s² to m/s², multiply by 0.01 — so 10 cm/s² is 0.1 m/s².
1 m/s² is 3.280839895 ft/s². To convert m/s² to ft/s², divide by 0.3048 — so 10 m/s² is 32.8083989501 ft/s².
1 ft/s² is 0.3048 m/s². To convert ft/s² to m/s², multiply by 0.3048 — so 10 ft/s² is 3.048 m/s².
1 m/s² is 0.1019716213 g. To convert m/s² to g, divide by 9.80665 — so 10 m/s² is 1.019716213 g.
1 g is 9.80665 m/s². To convert g to m/s², multiply by 9.80665 — so 10 g is 98.0665 m/s².
You do not have to open Acceleration Converter to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
