Convert blood glucose between mg/dL and mmol/L.
Free to use, no sign-up required. Blood Sugar Converter is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Converts blood glucose readings between mg/dL, used in the US and some other countries, and mmol/L, used in the UK, Canada, Australia and most of Europe. Helpful when reading a meter, lab report or guideline from another country.
mmol/L = mg/dL ÷ 18.0182, and mg/dL = mmol/L × 18.0182. The factor comes from the molar mass of glucose, about 180.16 g/mol, divided by 10 to turn per litre into per decilitre. It applies to glucose only.
A fasting reading of 126 mg/dL is 7 mmol/L. A reading of 5.5 mmol/L is 99 mg/dL.
mg/dL measures glucose by weight; mmol/L counts molecules, which is the SI standard. The US kept mass units in clinical labs, while the UK, Canada, Australia and much of Europe moved to molar units.
No. The 18 factor is specific to glucose. Cholesterol uses about 38.67 and triglycerides about 88.57, because the molecules have different masses.
No. It only changes units. Targets and thresholds for your own readings should come from your doctor or diabetes team.
You do not have to open Blood Sugar Converter to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
