Randomizer

Flip a coin, roll a die, pick a random number, or choose from a list.

Free to use, no sign-up required. Randomizer is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.

A coin flip, dice roller, random number generator and list picker in one, for games, raffles, choosing who goes first or sampling numbers.

How to use Randomizer

  1. Choose a mode: Coin, Dice, Number or Pick.
  2. For Dice, pick d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 or d20 and set How many dice (up to 12). For Number, enter min and max, How many (up to 100) and whether to allow repeats with No repeats. For Pick, enter one option per line and how many to Pick.
  3. Press Randomize.
  4. Read the result, copy it, or look back through the last eight under Recent.

How it works

Every draw uses the browser’s cryptographic random source. Min and max are both included. Pick, and No repeats on ranges up to 1,000, use a Fisher–Yates shuffle; larger ranges redraw any repeat. Either way nothing appears twice. Remove after pick deletes the chosen lines from the list for the next draw.

Example

Coin mode shows Heads or Tails. Rolling three d6 shows three dice such as 4, 1, 6 with Total 11 beneath. Number mode with 1 to 49, How many 6 and No repeats on gives six different whole numbers in that range.

Questions about Randomizer

Is a computer random number truly random?

A cryptographic generator is seeded from unpredictable hardware events and is considered unpredictable for practical purposes, including security uses.

Why do I keep getting the same number twice?

Repeats are normal when No repeats is off. In 1 to 100, drawing just 12 numbers already gives about a 50% chance that two match.

Use it from chat

You do not have to open Randomizer to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
