Generate random UUIDs (v4).
Free to use, no sign-up required. UUID Generator is one of 198 tools built into Xenition, alongside a chat that can use them for you.
Generates random version 4 UUIDs, from 1 to 1,000 at a time. Developers use them as database keys, request IDs and file names that must not collide.
The tool uses the browser’s crypto.randomUUID. Where that is unavailable it fills 16 random bytes from crypto.getRandomValues and sets the version bits to 4 and the variant bits to 10, which leaves 122 random bits in each ID.
Each result has the form xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx: 32 hexadecimal digits in groups of 8, 4, 4, 4 and 12, where the third group always starts with 4 and y is 8, 9, a or b. Downloading 5 saves uuids-5.txt.
In theory yes, but with 122 random bits you would need to generate about 2.7 × 10^18 of them to reach a 50% chance of a single repeat.
Version 4 is entirely random. Version 7 starts with a timestamp so IDs sort by creation time, which some databases index more efficiently.
You do not have to open UUID Generator to use it. Ask Xenition in plain language and it runs the right tool, then carries the answer into whatever you are working on — a document, a spreadsheet, a deck.
